The City of Lakes
Lake Mary began as two settlements on the South Florida Railroad, Bent's Station and Belle Fontaine. Frank Evans, a tightrope walker and chemist, developed the community after arriving in 1882, and it's named for Mary Sundell, who settled on the lake's north shore. The city's motto is "City of Lakes." AAA's national office and Scholastic Book Fairs are based here.
